In a conundrum over what to do with the kids this summer. Take them away from LA to the Pocono Mountains. Children do get weary seeing the same old spots. So why not hop a flight from LAX to Allentown, Pennsylvania (Delta’s got the best direct flights), rent a car and drive the 40-minutes to the kid-friend, family-style Great Wolf Lodge.
A wild and wacky four story log cabin-like wonderland, Great Wold Lodge features accommodations called “KidKamp, KidCabin, Royal Bear, Majestic Bear, Grizzly Bear and Wolf Den. The kids will love the entering this magical bovine kingdom through a 6,000 square foot wolf-themed Grand Lobby appointed with hand-carved tables, over-stuffed furniture, antler chandeliers, a performing Great Clock Tower with animated denizens of the forest and fireside song fests and story telling are offered daily.
Young and old get a kick out of frolicling together in the 78,000-square-foot indoor water park climbing on and off a variety of exhilarating (and sometimes scary) water slides. Children hang onto their parents and couples hold onto each other for dear life on the spine-tingling Coyote Cannon with its 40 foot plunge and the awesome Alberta Falls— where three four-story tube slides twist and turn propelling you at top speed outside the Lodge and back into the pool.
Equally exciting, the Totem Towers—a pair of fast-paced, three-story body slides is not for the feint hearted while Whooping Hollow is ideal for tiny tots. For tamer adventures you can sit in a tube and sail around the lazy river, play in the gentle wave pool, shoot basketball hoops or simply plotz in a lounge chair and watch the non-stop action.
Isn’t It Romantic?
Couples can escape, too. While most of the 404 suites bear children themes, there are a number of romantic Whirlpool Fireplace suites, with oversize Jacuzzi tubs, king size bed, two TVs, microwave, coffee maker and refrigerator, and plenty of places where adults can escape for a peaceful interlude while the kids go wild in the water park, arcade or game rooms.
