As I sat watching Tyler Perry divulge issues of his childhood on the Oprah Winfrey show I could not help but allow my attention to be grabbed by the words continuously flashing at the bottom of my television. I had heard about Oprah’s interview with Tyler and had gotten off of the phone with friends so that I could give my full attention to the interview, but the words at the bottom of the screen continously flashed. “CITY OF HOUSTON ANNOUNCES LAYOFFS TO COVER $130 MILLION BUDGET.” Also in the news we get reports of the daily gas climb and it is estimated that gas will be $4.00 per gallon by summertime. Unemployment is already at an all time high. We cannot spend a hundred dollars at the grocery store anymore and have enough to fill our refrigerators and pantries and we cannot drive or walk through a neighborhood without seeing homes that have been foreclosed. People are living on the streets and in hotels and we do not see relief in sight.
I am an advocate of truth. And the truth is that there are some that will simply worry because they don’t know what else to do. There are some that will panic because they do not know what else to do. I submit that for those that claim to be Christians, though this season may not be easy or without hardship, we certainly have somewhere to turn and should know what to do. Just as God said to Joshua in the bible in Joshua 1:6, 7 and 9, be strong and courageous, be strong and very courageous, be strong and courageous, do not be terrified, do not be discouraged. For the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. God is saying to us, be strong and courageous. It has been quite easy for Christians to be undercover until now. Many perpetrators will be revealed. Now, people will find out who you really trust and believe. It is easy to be a Christian on Facebook and to run to church and sit on the same pew every Sunday and have no one challenge your level of commitment. No one wonders about your relationship with Christ, they just assume that because you quote scripture and tote your bible, you are a real Christian.
The times that are among us, the times that are to come will test your faith. If you say you believe it is now time to trust what you believe. If you have been planning on launching your ministry or going into business for yourself, don’t stop now. If you really believe God, believe Him now. These are the times when His strength is made evident. These are the times when God shows us that the impossible is only possible with Him. It is now time to trust what you say you believe. Just as Joshua believed God the first time He told the Israelites they could possess the land in Numbers13, we cannot be like the others fearing that we are grasshoppers in the sight of giants. We are a chosen people, a royal priesthood. If you profess to be a Christian, you should put on the Armor of God, be steadfast, unmovable and always abounding in the work of the Lord, fight the good fight and mount up with good courage to go in and possess the land. Trust what you believe and believe the report of God.
