In Part 2 we took a brief look at the authority Jesus gave us. This section will take a deeper look at the power and authority we were provided when man was first created and the power and authority we were given when Jesus died on the cross for us.
Genesis 1:28 – Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
After God created Adam and Eve, He gave them the earth. The word ‘Dominion’ means “Control, A territory or sphere of influence, Perfect control in right of ownership.”
He told us to subdue it. The word ‘subdue’ means to “Conquer, Vanquish, To quiet or bring under control, to overcome.”
Genesis 3:6 – So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.
When we sinned, we gave our power and authority over the earth to Satan. Have you ever thought about that? How did we do that exactly?
Think about it this way: A General in the Army sends a soldier to a specific place, but tells him there is one area he can’t go because it’s too dangerous. The General’s assistant hears the instructions to the soldier and comes and tells him that the area isn’t really that dangerous and the General is just exaggerating things. The soldier thinks about it and decides the assistant is right, the General probably is just exaggerating, so the soldier goes and he immediately comes under fire and finds out the General was right all along.
When the officer (Adam and Eve) decided to trust what the assistant (Satan) said instead of the General (God), the officer put his trust in the assistant. Instead of submitting to (trusting) the General’s orders by staying away from the dangerous area, the officer submitted to (trusted) the assistant instead. When Adam and Eve sinned, it was because they chose to believe what the serpent said. They chose to believe God was keeping something from them.
Romans 8:2 – And because you belong to him, the powerof the life-giving Spirit has freed youfrom the power of sin that leads to death. (NLT)
When Jesus came and died for us He set us free from Satan’s power. He took back the dominion over the earth and gave it back to us. Only this time He set it up so that we are co-signers with Christ. Once we accept Jesus as our Savior, we can no longer give total authority over to Satan. We can’t because Jesus won’t put His signature on it. Satan can deceive us though and we still live in a fallen world which is why we need to renew our minds to the Word of God. If we get the Word into us, then Satan can’t deceive us. If we get 1Peter 2:24 into us and realize that healing is ours, it’s already been taken care of and we just need to learn how to receive it, then we won’t ever have to be sick another day in our lives.
It doesn’t matter if it’s flu season. Once you understand how to receive healing, you’ll never get the flu again. You won’t even have to get a flu shot!
With this in mind, take another look at the verses in Part 1 and Part 2 again. We HAVE the authority, we ARE healed.
In Part 4 we will start looking at how to receive healing.
