The runway has shown so many trends for this upcoming season, but there are four that you should be focused on: color, sheer, texture, and prints. If you want to be sporting the most fabulous trends for spring and summer, get out your credit card, and head to the mall with these ideas in mind!
Building time! Color Block:
Designers such as Gucci, and Marc Jacobs, are using jewel tones, bold, and even neon colors in ways that fashionistas would never even imagine. This season mix colors such as royal blue, red, and lime green with some metallic accessories. Jil Sander puts together a very interesting look with a violet crew neck, and green high waisted flared pants, with a plum color strip along the hem of the pants. It sounds unconventional, but it is what all the fashion lovers will be wearing. You could also use Gucci’s idea and put together a jewel-toned outfit with gold accents, which are more classic. From neon to subdued colors, as long as you block, you can’t go wrong.
We can see it, and we like it! Sheer:
It is 2011 and year of the sheer! Chiffon is the best fabric to achieve this look. Vera Wang, Dolce & Gabbana, and Donna Karen all showed sheer pieces in their collections. It is a trend perfect for summer due to the use of lightweight fabric that will look beautiful under the summer sun. From dresses, to shirts, to light jackets it is a must this season. Depending on your comfort level you can wear colored camisoles, or bras, under these pieces. Pair a black bra under a black chiffon flowy shirt and a pencil skirt for a date night, or throw on a cami under a sheer tee, and ripped shorts for a relaxing day in the summer.
Touch It! Textures:
Lace and crochet items are a trend that will be here for a while. Lace has been showcased last season on the runway, and has been a repeat offender this season, but let’s face it, no one is mad about it! Lace is the perfect texture to wear this season. Look for lace in nudes, white, light pinks, and black. In dresses, skirts, and especially high-wasited lace shorts will be the cutest trend. A trend that hasn’t been picked up yet, but will be extremely popular in a month or so is the crochet flat, so run out and buy a pair, and be the first to wear them!
Jungle? Garden? Prints!
Designers were all about the prints this season from wild animal inspired looks, to the most popular trend this season, floral. The runway featured crazy outfits, like those of Blumarine pairing cheetah on cheetah in different sizes, and shades of blue. To D&G using floral in a beautiful, girly way in rompers. Look for floral printed shorts and accessories. From headbands, shoes, and earrings, make sure in incorporate floral into your summer collection.
