Welcome trail mates! We are about to embark on a journey together that will provide us with artistic nourishment and profound epiphanies of inspiration brought to you by the artists of New Mexico! Have you felt that interest lately? It is this sudden creative surge boiling up from some unknown location deep within you, just dying to feed on something beautiful. From my discussion with friends of late, it would seem many have experienced just that, myself being no exception. As a poet and writer I have barely been able to participate in the normal day to day flow of life due to a particularly rapid inflow of ideas and inspiration. This compelling notion has now led us each here to this point in time, sharing these words, ready to journey into the world of Contemporary Art and Literature in New Mexico and foster this seed of creative desire into our own unique blossoms.
Let me spend a brief moment getting you acquainted with our journey’s trail. We have no map and do not be afraid! Instead we will follow the pulse of creativity and allow the art to unfold to us in the order and method it is intended too. As your trail guide I will aide the process to minimize our levels of chaos, by bringing you commentary and profiles on New Mexico Contemporary Artists each week on Thursday and Sunday.
- Virtual Thursdays: expect reviews and commentary from the virtual masses of Contemporary Art in New Mexico, allowing our simple journey to be a conduit of exposure for many of the newest rising talents and art forms spawning from the new era of Social Networking and online media.
- Walk-a-bout Sundays: time to take the day of rest to the streets and profile the local Contemporary Art community and events in Albuquerque and beyond…(depending on the souls of my trusty sandals!)
It is my obsession to hit the art scene by foot, wheels or smart phone in New Mexico. True art, inspired art is not given the awareness it deserves compared to the louder, flash pop culture that currently mutes the airwaves. It is my sincere hope to help shed more light on the simple grace that surrounding ourselves in true art and literature provides. Here is a small Virtual Review to give you an idea of our journey together going forward.
I found a particularly interesting exhibit at the New Mexico Museum of Art’s website that is now available on their Virtual Exhibitions section. This is a good time to point out that the New Mexico Museum of Art, in my opinion, does a good job of making various exhibitions available virtually. It is a great way to still enjoy and be aware of the latest in Contemporary Arts of New Mexico in the comfort of your home. Bookmark it and visit, you won’t regret it.
This is where I happened upon a particularly nice exhibition titled: ‘Alternative Spaces’. This exhibition is from 2009 and while virtually the pictures do not do the exhibits justice, the audio tour makes it an enjoyable virtual experience. I found an appreciation for the story of the building and its architecture tied into the art it supports. ‘Waiting for Baumann’ by Ligia Bouton envokes the dark sense of fairytale long lost with the now statuary marionettes.
I have to admit that the piece I most connected with on this journey was the ‘Here You Are, Are You Here, You Are Here, 2007’ by Madeline Coit. It seemed so fitting that this was in the first virtual exhibit I decided to profile for this our first step in the journey.
I can feel the serendipity of these travels already, thank you for coming along. Remember loving art is having an opinion and never stop looking for that which speaks you. Until next time!
