Fans are getting excited for the opening of the action, fantasy, thriller, “Sucker Punch,” which hits theatres March 25, 2011. The film stars Vanessa Hudgens, Jena Malone, Emily Browning and Carla Gugino, most of whom began their careers as children or teenagers. They have very quickly grown up and are now being called the “Next crop of Hollywood sex symbols.”
What do you think? Should these young actresses be called sex symbols, being described as alluring and sizzling? What message does this send out to young people who have idolized and looked up to the stars for years now. From Hudgens lingerie and nude shots which first hit the Internet in on September 6, 2007, to young girl on girl kisses on screen, to the sexy, scantily clad images these young stars bring to the red carpets, it’s no wonder young Hollywood is being referred to in the way they are. But right or wrong, this is the way it is and their films are not so much for the younger crowds anymore. It’s extremely difficult to tell your 8 year old that the girl (Vanessa Hudgens) that they adored and idolized in the High School Musical movies is someone they are no longer allowed to see in the theatres. Afterall, posters of the star are plastered all over the young fans’ bedroom walls.
“Sucker Punch” is about a young girl who is locked up in a mental facility by her wicked stepfather. She goes into an alternative reality in order to cope and envisions a plan to help her escape the facility. The film has gotten reviews saying, “Films don’t get much sexier than this spring’s new release”. Whether or not your children are permitted to see these young stars turned sex symbols will have to be a personal decison on every individuals parents part.
We still have other actresses such as Dakota Fanning, Abigail Breslin and Selena Gomez who are young stars trying to keep a very good role model image for young fans. They still try to live their lives as teenager (as difficult as that might be with paparazzi following their every move); however, they keep their dating as private as possible and don’t take nude pictures of themselves. What young person should be doing that anyway.
