Live in the Denver area and your kids getting ready for spring break, well the Dumb Friends League animal shelter has a great idea for your kids. They are offering day-camps for the kids. This gives the kids a great opportunity to learn about the animals and be able to interact with them. The soul purpose of the day-camps is to teach the kids that “kindness, compassion and respect is what it’s all about”, says Nicole Schimming, humane education manager of Dumb Friends League.
Teaching children at an early age about how to interact, be kind, and properly care for pets is very important. This will teach children now what to do for when they get older and hopefully teach their friends. This process will enable them the techniques they will need to ensure pets are properly taken care of for the future. Our children are our future, so people need to take the time now to teach them the things they need to know now. Dumb Friends League is helping to do just that. They have been doing this and it is proving to be a great success for the kids as well as the shelter. All proceeds for the day-camps go towards helping the animals and to provide for them during their stay in either of the two shelters.
The camp is offering the following camp-days:
- Crafts Camp which is for the 2nd and 3rd graders (ages 6-8). This camp will have the kids make crafts they can take home and it will help them learn about caring for the pets. It will also allow them to interact with dog and cat ambassadors.
- Cat Camp is for 4th and 5th graders (ages 9-11). This camp is all about the kitty’s. It will teach the kids proper cat care while also helping to socialize the cats in the shelter. It will also teach them how to clicker-train the cats as well.
- Career Camp is for the 6th through 8th grade (ages 12-14) who may want to have a career in working with animals. This will allow young adults to gain knowledge about different animal related careers. They will spend time with an adoption counselor learning about their job. They will also observe a veterinarian in surgery to see how they work and they will also get to train a cat, dog and rats.
The daily schedule is as follows:
- March 22nd – Craft Camp
- March 23rd – Cat Camp
- March 24th – Career Camp
- March 29th – Craft Camp
- March 30th – Cat Camp
- March 31st – Career Camp
Each one day camp is from 9am until 4pm. The cost is $50 per day, of which benefit’s the Dumb Friends League. The camp will be held at the Dumb Friends League’s two shelter locations. The Quebec location is at 2080 Quebec Street and the Buddy Center location is at 4556 Castleton Court in Castle Rock.
