The legendary Queen of the Silver Screen, Elizabeth Taylor, died from congestive heart failure today. She left this world in her hospital bed surrounded by her children. Elizabeth Taylor was a childhood celebrity who actually survived the industry and went on to enjoy a long list of movies. We first met her at the age of eleven when she made her 1943 acting debut, in Lassie Come Home. The following year she starred in National Velvet.
Elizabeth Taylor is known for the celebrity who had eight marriages. Richard Burton was the love of her life, she married and divorced him twice. Her first marriage to Conrad Hilton Jr. only lasted one year. She was barely 18 years old and the marriage failed because of alcoholism. Her third husband, film director, Mike Todd, ended when he died in a plane crash. However, it is often the scandal of marrying her forth husband Eddie Fischer in 1959; only a day after he divorced Debbie Reynolds that gave her vixen and home wrecker status.

After the shock of the death of her co-actor and friend, Rock Hudson, Elizabeth became passionate about HIV/AIDS. While the world was afraid of AIDS and shunned people who had it, Elizabeth took on the campaign in memory of Rock Hudson. She was strong and courageous.

Montrealers remember Elizabeth Taylor’s famous first marriage to Richard Burton on March 15, 1964. It was held in Montreal’s famous Ritz Carleton Hotel. The couple had about 20 invited guests. Today the Ritz Carleton is still getting inquiries all over the world to see the Hall she married in. Unfortunately the hall is being scheduled for demolition and replaced by Condos.
