Have you ever heard the old saying “you are only as sick as your biggest secret?” Think about that. What exactly makes someone fearful? Afraid that if anyone found out the very thing they are trying so desperately to hide.
Afraid others will judge, ridicule, or blackmail? What you fear the most shall surely come upon you. Did you know that? One could actually bring about the very thing they desperately fear. Why is that? Read on…
What have others accomplished by taking their secrets to the grave? Nothing; eventually what they kept hidden for many years, comes out in the open after they are deceased. Why? Because there is nothing new under the sun, no, not one thing. Humans all do the same thing repeatedly in history.
How can revealing a secret help? When should one disclose? These are the questions that plaque those who are in torment. Darkness has power over you ONLY if you let it. Once a dark secret is revealed the darkness and torment lose their power.
Look at the testimonies of men and women who have disclosed in public on issues of victimization, and abuse. Once their story is told; healing always follows. It takes Faith to open up and face the fear.
Why protect a perpetrator by not revealing the truth about what happened? Keeping it a secret only allows them to continue the abuse, and to continue on an emotional level to torment the victims.
Why hold onto a destructive secret? Internal sickness is the direct result of such actions. The root cause of most sicknesses, illness and diseases is FEAR. Fear of future, or of what people will say or do. It doesn’t matter how people react. No one has control over the response of another.
Why not forgive and let go of the past, rather than projecting that bitterness into the future? Nothing good comes out of unforgiving and bitterness. The future result of bitterness transfers to the next generation. Look at families with these issues, and witness the dysfunctional pattern in the family tree. Like Mother like daughter and like Father like son…someone has to stop the pattern.
Disclosure and confession are good for the soul, and body. Having Faith to believe that healing will follow once fear has been confronted takes great courage.
