During a visit with my aunt last month I discovered two things: 1. Someone had come into posession of an iPad and 2. This iPad had the greatest game of all time. Not only is Sand Slides insanely addicting and very mentally challenging, it is FREE in the app store. Since I’m a huge advocate of not paying for apps, I feel I must review this one just simply based on its entertainment quality and merit.
The whole premise of sand slides is that there are three beeker-like despensers of sand. When the game begins, the player has a certain number of grains allowed in order to channel the sand into the proper recepticle based on color, trying to get as many of the correct color of grains into each of the three funnels as possible. They do this by drawing lines with their finger to send the sand the right way, and drawing circles to catch any sand that might combine with another color. If two colors of sand combine in the same funnel, the player is counted for the incorrect combination of colors, and once the preset limit of mistakes is reached, the game is over.
So with a certain limit of grains that can be incorrect, one could go on forever, and user high scores reflect that. Top scores on “hard” difficulty top out at upwards of 11 million according to a recent update of the Sand Slides website. Overall, users agree that this game is definately worth the absolute nothing you pay for it, and possibly much more, with an overall score of 4.5 stars out of 5. Not to mention that it tops out as the No.1 free game in 25 countries including France, Italy and Great Britain.
This game is a blast for anyone who enjoys a mental challenge and provides a gaming experience like few other games out there. Not only does it challenge your mind, it challenges your reflexes to beat the clock and beat the dropping grains. Additionally, its 76 Game Center Achievements make it another game you can compete against your friends with.
This game is playable for ages 6+, based on the challenging nature of understanding the game, but I recommend anyone above that age to play for a fun time. Also, it is great for passing time, like waiting for the bus or your flight at the airport.
Overall, I give this game 5 stars, even though the recent update was a little shaky, it now does require the most recent iOS update to run, which improves game performance phenomenally.
