Music icon RZA is set to guest star on the 5th season of Californication, according to an Aprili 25, 2011 press release from Showtime. The Grammy winning music producer will star as an all-powerful hip hop mogul in multiple episodes of the series starring David Duchovny.
Music icon, producer, actor and director RZA (American Gangster, Derailed) has signed on for the 5th season of the hit Showtime comedy series Californication. RZA will guest star in multiple episodes as an extreme-living, mega-rich hip hop mogul who hires Hank Handler (David Duchovny) to write a screenplay for his hot new film. Production on the 5th season of Californication begins this May. David Duchovny is the series star and executive producer of Californication.
Californication stars David Duchovny as hedonistic novelist Hank Moody who struggles to raise his teenage daughter Becca (Madeleine Martin), while still carrying a torch for his ex-girlfriend Karen (Natascha McElhone). Duchovny won a Golden Globe for his role.
The new season will answer questions from last month’s cliff-hanging season finale, including whether Hank, Karen and Becca will finally be able to live as a family, if Charlie (Evan Handler) and Marcy’s (Pamela Adlon) new baby will help reunite the now-divorced couple and, especially, to where, exactly, Hank was driving off into the sunset.
RZA made his directorial debut with The Man with the Iron Fists, which he co-wrote with Eli Roth and will star as “The Blacksmith.” The film stars Russell Crowe, Lucy Liu, Jamie Chung, Daniel Wu and Cung Le. Eli Roth and Strike Entertainment produced. Quentin Tarantino executive produced and is presenting the film and Universal will distribute. The Man with the Iron Fists will be released later in 2011. RZA was seen in Repo Me, The Next Three Days, Due Date, Funny People, American Gangster;= Life is Hot in Crack Town and Derailed.
RZA is a GRAMMY® Award-winning music producer, BAFTA-nominated film composer, recording artist and actor. He is one of the most prominent figures in hip hop music and the creator/producer of the Wu-Tang Clan. RZA has an extremely distinguished body of work in music, scoring for filmmakers such as Ridley Scott, Jim Jarmusch and Quentin Tarantino. RZA scored the Emmy®-nominated American adaptation of the Japanese anime Afro Samurai, executive produced by and starring Samuel L. Jackson. He is represented by ICM and Joe Carlone at King, Holmes, Paterno & Berliner.
