The Play-Doh Creations Make n Color Creatures playset is an art kit that provides kids with the tools and accessories needed to create colorful three-dimensional creatures out of modeling compound and reusable plastic body parts that can be decorated with an included set of wet-erase markers. Suitable for kids ages 4 and up, this playset is part of a line of Hasbro toys that inspire children to combine different materials with Play-Doh to make new kinds of artistic creations.
About Play-Doh Creations Make n Color Creatures
This small playset comes with 16 flat and white plastic body parts of various shapes that can be drawn on with 4 wet-erase markers (yellow, green, blue, and red), 5 cans of Play-Doh modeling compound (red, neon pink, orange, yellow, and blue), and a jungle-themed playmat printed with pictures of sample creatures that can be made with this art toy.
To make a new animal, boys and girls can first use the markers to decorate some of the differently shaped body parts, which kids may imagine look like fins, wings, feet, and so on. Then kids can sculpt a body and limbs for their creature, possibly coating the body parts with Play-Doh to use them as a frame or skeleton to support the finished animal. Finally, children can add the body parts to their animal’s body, creating a beast that can be set up on display or dismantled to make a new creature.
Play-Doh Creations Make n Color Creatures review
Kids will enjoy using their imaginations to figure out different ways to use the flat body parts to make new beings. What might work as a wing on one creature can be a great tail or hind leg or even nose for another. Children will also enjoy using the markers to color in the body parts, and during our testing we did not have any trouble washing each plastic piece clean so that it could be colored a different way (though we would not recommend leaving the marker ink on for a longer period of time than necessary).
Once girls and boys get the hang of how to stick the pieces into Play-Doh to create funny creatures that can stand up, they may be inspired to find other plastic tools or toys from around the home that could be added to Play-Doh to make animals. Kids might even use stiff cardboard or another material to design and cut out their own set of body parts.
Usually priced at around $7.99, this cute and affordable Play-Doh playset adds value to any playroom both through the tools it adds to an art studio’s arsenal and through the new ideas it can stimulate children to have about how to play with their modeling compound.
