Lady GaGa made her triumphant return to northern California on Tuesday night in Oakland, as she brought her famed Monster Ball tour to the Oracle Arena. Whenever Lady GaGa goes on tour, the fans are thrilled to be able to see the singer perform live. Upon arriving at the Oracle, a number of fans were dressed up like the singer, taking on their own interpretations of previous looks that the singer has been seen wearing in videos, award shows, or on the red carpet. Dressing up to attend a Lady GaGa concert is part of the fun for fans, and in Oakland yesterday, the Monster Ball was everything that the little monsters were hoping for and more. The two main bands that have been touring with GaGa are Semi Precious Weapons who opened for the singer in August of last year at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California. This time around, the famous band, Scissor Sisters opened for the star and was a fantastic way to get the night started.
Scissor Sisters took to the stage amid thunderous roars from the audience, and performed some of their greatest hits. Jake Shears and Ana Matronic wowed the crowd with their energy, charisma and talent that was showcased by their performance. Both Shears and Matronic pointed out that there were family members in attendance last night. Matronic mentioned that she had grown up partly in the bay area. During the band’s performance, the singer mentioned that while there were a lot of fans dressed up, it paled in comparison to some of the other cities that they have traveled to, Salt Lake City, Utah was named specifically. Matronic then went on to say that “life is a ball, and it is always better in a costume.” The Scissor Sisters brought the enthusiasm to the Oracle, and Shears stated how grateful that he and the rest of the band were to be on stage, and that they hoped that “mother monster” Lady GaGa could hear them back in her dressing room. The band closed out their performance with their huge hit, “Filthy/Gorgeous.”
Lady GaGa did not take to the stage until around 10. The star had been in San Francisco at Google for an interview. As the little monsters waited for the singer, Michael Jackson’s greatest hits filled the arena. Hits such as “Thriller,” “Dirty Diana,” and “Bad” were heard throughout the night, and as “Rock with You” came on, members of the audience began to sing along with the iconic singer. Michael Jackson remains to be one of the most popular singers of all time, and the fans greatly miss him, and always will. Like Lady GaGa, there is a unifying quality to the singer’s music which has and will continue to stand the test of time.
GaGa took to the stage, as the remixed intro to “Dance in the Dark,” began to play on the screen and throughout the arena. When the singer’s silhouette was revealed, the crowd went crazy with excitement, and she began to sing to the hit song from The Fame Monster. It is evident that everything about the star’s performances from the costumes, to the sets and of course the vocals, is everything that a true icon possesses,. The entertainer is certainly destined to become an icon in the music industry. When one sees a star perform, it becomes obvious quickly when they are born with natural talent, and Lady GaGa was born this way. The singer is a star — the world knows this, and at the Monster Ball, everyone is a superstar. The singer spoke to the audience and asked them to let go of all of their insecurities, and of anything in their past or perhaps even in the present that made them feel as though they didn’t belong, or that they weren’t good enough. GaGa encouraged her fans last night, and every night when she takes the Monster Ball to different cities, to embrace their destinies, and to follow their dreams, and to not allow anyone bring them down — a quality that the fans admire about the singer.
As the night ensued, GaGa revealed to the fans that she is extremely excited about the new album. The fans around the world are incredibly excited as well. The singer has seen huge success with The Fame, and The Fame Monster. Born This Way is sure to be another huge success. More importantly, GaGa has said in the past that she makes music for her fans, and the fans continue to show their support for everything that the star does. Other hits that were performed during the show were “Just Dance,” “Teeth,” “Telephone,” and an amazing acoustic version of “Born This Way,” among others. GaGa did not sing “Speechless” last night, but she did debut a new song from the album to Oakland last night, “You and I,” complete with a blazing piano. The star also performed even more hits, “Poker Face,” and yes, the fame monster was killed last night at the Oracle during “Paparazzi.”
As always, Lady GaGa’s singing was the star of the show, and the fans were thrilled to see the singer dance through her songs and interact with the fans. GaGa has the ability to take a huge arena, and turn that feeling into one in which the audience feels that they are seeing her perform in an intimate venue — something that all great performers can do. The superstar is enjoying the continued success of her first single off of the album of the same title, “Born This Way.” The new single has been number one on the Billboard chart for the past five weeks, and GaGa thanked all the little monsters in attendance last night and all over the world for making the song such a success.
Lady GaGa was encored twice last night, and she and her dancers took to the stage to perform the seminal hit, “Bad Romance,” and the new chart-topping single, “Born This Way.” The Monster Ball tour is coming to an end at the beginning of May but what will remain is the encouragement that the singer has offered to her millions of fans all over the world as they anticipate the release of Born This Way on May 23, and the new tour that will be launched in the future.
The Madison Square Garden Monster Ball show will be featured on an upcoming HBO special which will premiere on May 7. Be sure to tune in!
