If you have a child, most likely that child loves to jump and climb. Kids will jump on just about anything at any time. That’s why a place called Monkey Joe’s is in business. They provide hours of jumping fun for kids ages 2-12. Monkey’s Joes in Fairview Heights, Il. is a large indoor facility that provides inflatable structures like bounce houses, obstacle courses, and slides. They offer party packages as well as walk-ins.
A party package at Monkey Joes includes 1 ½ hours of playtime and 30 minutes in a private room for the birthday party. A set price will include party invitations, set up and clean up, gift for birthday child which is a Monkey Joe’s t-shirt, drink, host or hostess, paper plates, cups, utensils, and a table cloth. A Monkey character that represents Monkey Joe’s will come into your party to visit the kids and deliver the birthday child’s t-shirt.
You’re not allowed to bring in any outside food except a birthday cake. Unlike some other favorite party places for kids, food is not the main focus at Monkey Joes. They have a concession stand but if you have a party there and want food, you can order pizza from them for $15.95, which includes 8 slices with one topping, that they will actually call in and have delivered from a nearby pizza place. If you happen to have a discount coupon, such as a buy one get one free, from that or any other pizza place, you will not be able to use it and bring in your own, even if you have paid for the room and facility. Besides the pizza if you want balloons, birthday party goodie bags or ice cream you’ll be paying extra for that as well.
The older kids ages 8-12 seemed to get bored pretty quickly while I was there. This is because they were limited on what they were allowed to get on compared to the younger children. The pizza was delivered to the party next door that did not order pizza. What started out as a party package for $139 for 8 kids ended up costing well over $200 by the time 2 extra kids were added, balloons and 3 pizzas. Also if you want your party on the weekend instead of a weekday you will pay more since that is usually a busy time for parties. You are allowed to bring in your own decorations but you must pick up and take home anything you bring or you may be charged an extra cleaning fee beyond what is included in the party package price.
The only positive thing that came out of this particular party, since it was a weeknight and not very busy with other parties, was that we were allowed to use the room for the entire time we were there instead of only 30 minutes which is what they usually allow.
Since the place does not make their own specialty pizza it might be more feasible for private parties if they would allow outside food in when reserving the private room or at the very least allow drinks. I noticed how quickly the kids got very thirsty from jumping and climbing and going in and out of the obstacle courses. Besides ordering drinks from their concession stand they had one drinking fountain near the restrooms.
Monkey Joe’s in Fairview Heights, Illinois is a fun place for the younger children if you’re taking them in as a walk-in for a little playtime but the price is a bit costly for a party if you want to have food, drinks and ice cream.
