Well, if it worked for Brittany…why not release a video teaser? It looks like it’s going to be totally awesome in a tacky and unrefined sort of way. Menomena fans are hoping it’s a return to the nutty fun of videos past. Here’s just a smattering of unique videos if you are new to the band.
“Cough Coughing” (I Am The Fun Blame Monster) featured a trash monster giving trash gifts from a bag of rottenness. Brent, Danny, and Justin are hanging out in a hot tub drinking champagne when they get a visit. The people stage a revolt and chase it back to the woods, but there’s still more trash… Directed by Johnnie Ross. Who’s in the trash monster suit? Matt Sheehy.
“Wet And Rusting” (Wet and Rusting EP, Friend and Foe) Death comes knocking and the boys bring out their bucket lists. Directed by Lance Bangs. Who’s in the death suit? Matt Sheehy.
“Rotten Hell” (Friend and Foe) Kiddies in a school have a food fight. It’s brilliant, and strangely beautiful. “It’s high time we step outside/drop our gloves and settle this like a man.” Directed by War & Julius. No adult supervision. Where was Matt Sheehy?
“Evil Bee” (Friend and Foe) The video went with the idea of the title rather than the actual lyrics of the song. In this trippy animated video, a little worker bee stands up for itself against its captors. It escapes and finds love with another little bee. They die, but blissfully. And the circle of life continues… Directed by Stefan Nadelman
“Taos” is the first official music video for Mines. The video officially premieres at Pitchfork Media this coming Thursday. The director? Alicia J. Rose who has been responsible for some of their most amusing photo shoots, including the now-infamous-on-the-indie-circuit bathtub shot.
There are also a number of videos which are unofficial sessions shot while they toured, these are only links to the official ones.
The real question still on everyone’s mind is if Matt Sheehy will be in it. Actually it’s whether or not Menomena can actually continue without Brent. The jury is still out. “So please/show me your teeth/and I’ll show mine.” Let’s all meet at Pitchfork Media on Thursday!
