’83 Sweets, a homey little cupcakery from Kettering, has tossed their hat into the ring to be on the Food Network’s popular show, Cupcake Wars. ’83 Sweets is a homebased cupcake business owned by Alyssa Logan of Kettering. Alyssa’s cupcakes feature an 80’s theme that resonates loud and proud throughout her lineup of over 50 cupcake flavors. These rocking names include:
- Little Red Cor-velvet
- Livin’ On A Praline
- The Goonies Chocolate Chunk Cookie Dough
- Pretty In Pink Lemonade
- White Lion Chocolate Macadamia Nut
Instead of a traditional store front, Alyssa dreams of a delivery truck. Why a delivery truck?
According to Alyssa, “A cupcake delivery truck means no rent or utilities, plus I come to you, which is convient for everyone. Another reason for the delivery truck-rockin’ music AND cupcakes for a full experience!”
Low overhead, the convenience of delivery and music while waiting in line-sure sounds like a winning combination!
After emailing the casting department of Cupcake Wars the required information, Alyssa wasn’t even sure if she qualified for the show. She noticed that many of the bakers showcased on the program were “very well off bakers that own like 5 stores in a really nice part of California,” so she fired off an email to casting and was relieved to hear that she did, indeed, qualify for the show. She was notified that her information would be held for approximately four months when the casting for the 4th season of the show will begin. When she told the casting director that she would be “chillin’ out max, and relaxin’ all cool” until they get back to her she received the following reply, “while shootin’ some b-ball outside of school”. Alyssa hopes that the sharing of Fresh Prince quotes is a good sign. “I think if he is quoting Fresh Prince of Bel-air, I have a good chance haha.”
For the time being, ’83 Sweets website is a Facebook fan page and Alyssa’s order form is the email address [email protected] Those wishing to view a complete menu are asked to email their request. Alyssa bakes all of her goodies from scratch with natural ingredients. Her sweets do not contain artificial flavors, preservatives or trans fats. Prices are as follows:

About the show (taken from the Cupcake Wars website): It’s cupcake vs. cupcake in Food Network’s tastiest competition yet! Each week on Cupcake Wars, four of the country’s top cupcake bakers face off in three elimination challenges until only one decorator remains. The sweet prize: $10,000 and the opportunity to showcase their cupcakes at the winning gig. Whether a special Ace of Cakes anniversary celebration, a star-studded magazine party or an A-list celebrity golf tournament, these Cupcakes Wars really heat up. Candace Nelson (owner of Sprinkles Cupcakes) and Florian Bellanger (chef and co-owner of online macaroon company MadMac) serve as permanent judges with a third rotating judge each week, and Justin Willman hosts.
