The same people, who for years castigated the republicans, especially former President George W. Bush, Vice-President Cheney and Defense Secretary Rumsfeld over the invasions of Irag and Afghanistan, are remarkably silent over a United Nations “No-Fly Zone” imposed over Libya, supported by the United States. Of course, what the U.N. really voted for, is a “United States” No-Fly Zone, to be paid for by the long suffering U.S. taxpayer! We are supposed to believe, the same governments (French, Italian, British) who refused to help us in Iraq and Afghanistan, have now gotten “religion” and desire somekind of joint action by N.A.T.O under the auspices of a United Nations’ resolution. The United States helped institute the No-Fly Zone, then turned control of enforcing it over to N.A.T.O. The result; attacks by Gaddafi’s forces against the rebels have intensified and Britain, France, et al are voicing concerns the United States is not doing enough, thereby implying the mission is “at risk” because of our government’s inaction in support of the so-called democracy loving rebels. These “rebels,” by the way, are the same people who came out in the streets of Tripoli, in the hundreds of thousands to shower their applause and praise for the release of the Lockherbie bomber by the cowardly, self-serving Scottish government; a supposed U.S. ally. The same bomber, a Jihadist, responsible for the deaths of hundreds of American Citizens; many of them college students from Syracuse University, returning from spring break. Now, at the behest of these “allies,” we are to engage in a Muslim rescuing mission, that could possibly involve the U.S. in another “hot” spot for our troops, a shooting war that will be condemned by these same hapless allies as soon as elections in these countries bring to power Socialist leaders, as history teaches is inevitable for our appeasement loving European brothers. And why are there no demands by these same lovers of the so-called democracy rebels in Libya, for those “rebels” who are being killed in the streets of Syrian cities by Bashar Al- Assad’s military thugs? It seems humanitarian concerns for rebels is a very selective process (tied to European energy needs?) with not all rebels being created equal and deserving of N.A.T.O “protection” and “support.” In effect, we back certain rebels, but not others, based on some nebulous formula devised by the Obama State Department led by Hillary Clinton. Good luck if you don’t meet their criteria for receiving help, as the democracy demonstrators found out in Iran, to their great dismay and disillusionment.
The pattern is the same; the U.S. is dragged into action because N.A.T.O. needs our blood and treasure, then at the least sign of things going awry, there will be demonstrations all across Europe against our policies and demanding our “withdrawal.” Socialist governments in Europe who didn’t support our military efforts in Iraq or Afghanistan, won’t support our on-going attempts to force Iran to give up its nuclear weapons program; and yet we, Americans, are once again asked to suspend our incredulity and believe these same people, who love to hate America, will stay the course in Libya! Have we so soon forgotten Somalia, where United Sates troops were abandoned by then U.N. Secretary-General Boutrous-Boutrous Ghalli and allowed to be butchered in the streets of Mogidishu (the infamous Blackhawk down incident)? Should Pesident Obama feel compelled to commit U.S. resources to protect American interests, let him do so to protect Israel, our one true friend in that region or deploy them to our border with Mexico, where another war is raging, putting American citizens at risk. Let the Libyans work out their own problems; let one set of anti-American fanatics destroy another set of anti-American fanatics! Libya is a no-win situation for the United States and if Gaddafi survives, so what; the world has lived with that maniac for over 40 years and we can wait till he dies of old age. It is NOT in our best interest to fight and die for some anti-American, Muslim Jihadists who if they win, will launch attacks against us every chance they get. Remember, in 1979, we were told by the same liberal elitists in the Carter administration that it was in our best interests to let the Shah fall and the Imams take over the government there. Does anyone today believe that was in America”s “best interests?”
