Laidback Luke, voted #17 on DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJ list in 2010, will be performing live Thursday, March 17 at Lima, which is located at 1401 K St. NW in Washington, DC. Opening set by Pleasurekraft. Brought to you by Glow and Panorama Productions, Glow at Lima, which was voted ‘Best New Venue of 2010’ by Armin van Buuren and David Guetta, never disappoints. Glow Thursdays at Lima now allow an 18 and over crowd.
Laidback Luke, born in 1978 as Luke van Scheppingen in Manila, Philippines, is a Dutch DJ and producer. He grew up in The Netherlands and made his name as a graffiti artist before turning to making music.
At the age of 18 he signed his first record deal, and in 1995 he released ‘Act the Fool’ on Touché and ‘Loud Flava’ on Groove Alert Records. The next year he released his remix of Green Velvet’s ‘Stalker’ on Music Man Records, which received huge support from legend Carl Cox.
Laidback Luke then released two studio albums: Psyched Up (1998) and Electronic Satisfaction (2002) as well as a successful mix album, Windmill Skill (2003). In 2003, van Scheppingen did a remix of the Daft Punk song ‘Crescendolls’ for the duo’s poorly received remix album Daft Club.
In 2004 Luke paired up with fellow DJ Steve Angello at the Winter Music Conference in Miami and the duo began producing together. They released ‘Otherwize Then’ on Refune Records & ‘Sexy F**k’ on Steve’s Size Records two years later.
Since then he has worked with artists such as David Guetta, Sebastian Ingrosso, TV Rock, Junior Sanchez, and Roger Sanchez and played throughout Europe and North America as well as shows in Japan and Ibiza. The summer of 2010 marked the debut of his ‘Super You & Me’ party in Ibiza, and his tracks ‘Till Tonight’ with Jonathan Mendhelson and ‘Turbulence’ with Steve Aoki and Lil’ John lit up clubs across the world.
Doors to the event will open at 10 p.m. and close at 2 a.m., though Lima by day is an upscale restaurant and lounge with incredible happy hour specials from 4:30 p.m.-7 p.m. and a lavish menu worth checking out before the party starts. By night the lounge features state of the art sound, lighting and visuals. The Glow Girls dancers will also be performing for added entertainment.
Glow offers free admission before 11 p.m. with the printed flyer on www.dcclubbing.com or reduced admission with guest list or flyer after 11 p.m. Discounts to other Glow events are offered by becoming a “Fan of Glow” on Facebook. Otherwise tickets are available on www.clubglow.com.
