Lace up the running shoes because it is once again time for the Annual Kentucky State Park Race Series.
This year marks the 7th year for the races; the schedule includes 5K competitions at four different beautiful Kentucky parks, each with individual scenic and terrain personalities.
The first race in the series will be the Goose Creek 5K to be held at E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park in Louisville on April 9, 2011 at 9:00 a.m., Eastern Time. Click here for the registration form.
Other race locations and dates are:
- Barren River 5K Classic to be held at Barren River State Resort Park near Glasgow on May 14th, 2011 at 8:30 a.m., Central Time. Barren River 5K registration form
- Possum Ridge 5K to be held at Taylorsville Lake State Park at Taylorsville on June 11th, 2011 at 8:00 a.m., Eastern Time. Possum Ridge 5K registration form
- Magnolia 5K to be held at Rough River Dam State Resort Park near Leitchfield on July 9th, 2011 at 8:00 a.m., Central Time. Magnolia 5K registration form
Each race has a pre-registration fee of $15.00 or a race day registration fee of $20.00 for runners. For walkers, there is a pre-registration fee of $10.00 or $15.00 on day of walk. Registration for individual races is through each individual park.
To register for the entire series, the pre-registration fee is $50.00 for a runner and $30.00 for a walker if registered and paid on or before April 8, 2011. The registration for the series is here.
Runners who participate in all four races will receive a certificate and will be registered for a special giveaway. In addition awards will be give to the overall male and female winner of each race; first and second place winners in each male and female age division; and grand prize winners for those who compete in all four races. The grand prize winners will be announced after the Magnolia 5K at Rough River.
Registration forms and race rules can be downloaded at www.parks.ky.gov where there is information about divisions, the point system and a map of race locations. Completed individual race registrations should be mailed to the host park; series registrations should be mailed to Kentucky Department of Parks Race Series. Mailing addresses are on each registration form.
Reservations for overnight or weekend stays at the park lodges, cabins or campsites can be made at www.parks.ky.gov or by calling (888) 4KY-PARK or by calling the individual park. Google Maps is a handy tool for finding each park and all are within an easy drive of Metro Louisville.
