Howard Stern says the Howard Stern Show will be cutting back to three live shows a week sometime in the next few months.
Report: Howard Stern Production Company suing Sirius XM
Stern talked about his plans to cut back to a three day week schedule in his recent Rolling Stone interview and elaborated on his plans during Tuesday morning’s satellite radio broadcast.
“Right now we’re doing the four day week thing and we have a schedule where we’ll do some four days a week, sometimes three days a week. And eventually I will–we will cut back to three days a week, but not for a while. And my thought process was this: Look, it seems like the show is on a really good roll. The fans still love it and I also think being part of the Sirius organization it offers people a lot of programming and a lot of fun with the radio especially when you’re driving around in your car…So, I thought rather than leave altogether, I thought three days a week with like 12 or 13 hours of programming a week would be very, very beneficial.”

Howard Stern says that an amended live show schedule was a key component in convincing him to re-up with Sirius XM for another five year contract.
“I thought that this would be a good compromise–where I wouldn’t have to leave the radio and retire–and still be here. And I think this will be good. Because a lot of people said to me: ‘Hey! Don’t leave the radio entirely. You got a good thing. We love all getting together on the radio.'”

For those fans already foaming at the mouth over the idea of only three live Howard Stern Shows per week, Stern offered this cautionary tale:
“I was talking to [Sirius XM] about maybe doing like maybe one show a week or something like that. And they said: ‘No, we think we’d be more comfortable with maybe three.’ And I said: ‘OK, I think that would be-it will keep me energized, will keep motivated, and keep me in the game and also I would love to keep that connection with my audience. So, I hope a lot of people are happy with that and are still going to want to be with us.”
Stern said that his new schedule of three live shows per week will kick in “in a couple of months”.
