During the season of Lent while reading and doing the meditations from a metaphysical booklet published by the Unity Movement entitled Let Go and Let God it is obvious that any people use the Lenten season leading up to the Resurrection of Christ to give up something as a sort of repentance. It is wise to consciously choose to give up as many negative thoughts and beliefs continuously throughout the year in an effort to expand the metaphysical Christ consciousness. A big concern in this process may be exactly what is “it” that is supposed to be let go of?
Have you struggled with the sometimes casually used phrase “let go and let God”? Have you thought about what it really means? It is interesting that the moment the desire to let go of something surfaces, it seems more of that thing appears. Realize it may be hard to let go of a lot things and especially not to God, whom by the way people still are not really clear about. Some folks have a hard time letting go of old gym shoes to the Goodwill. How then it is possible to turn our problems, concerns, worries, basically turn our whole lives over to an entity called God that many can not even agree exists? What does he/she looks like, if he is a she, or is he/she? The invisible substance remains a mystery to many.
Any and every thought that is produced commands introspection as to its validity. Watch an episode of the reality series “Hoarders” with the recognition that not only to we hoard “stuff”, we also hoard thoughts, feelings and beliefs that are old, worn out, and sometimes downright crazy.
Take a few moment and explore some stuff “it” might be made of in your life…decide for yourself if you need to let go…
If someone cut you off in traffic this morning, and it ruined your mood, let it go.
If, you still own anything from high school and you are over 35, let it go.
If you have a TV or any appliance that does not work, let it go. Let go of everything in your life with an expiration date that has passed.
If, you have a drawer of old cell phones or any other unused articles, now is the time to let them go. Throw them out and clear a space for improvement.
If you had a disagreement with someone more than 24 hours ago, breathe and let it go. You may not even remember what started the issue and it probably wasn’t even that important. The other person probably does not remember either. sighs. The relationship is what matters most as love breeds more love, and vice verse.
If, you are still bitter about the Presidential election….any one of them, let it GO!
If you are still mad at your child’s Daddy/Mama and the kids are over 21, let it go…stop the drama
If you can remember every (or any) bad thing someone has done to you and any of these things in detail(or not), you may need therapy, and/or hypnosis, to assist you in letting go….talk to someone who can help you release and let go.
If, you believe, that when you die, you may go to hell, take a deep breath, look around, and consider the possibility, that you already, dwell in hell. The fact is in reality, some of us experience more moments of hell in the here and now,
than we do glimpses of God…
Let go, as hell is and could very well be, a metaphysical state of mind.
Lets try it…
I let go of (fill in the blank)__________.
I now make room for Divine flow in my life.
Finish with an affirmation of faith.
Once you say it out loud after a few times, you may realize how ridiculous a thought can be. It is all in the past, what has been done is over. Most times you CANNOT change “it”. It may simply be time to move ON!
Case Study: Have you ever obsessed over the craziest things, like he or she didn’t speak to me yesterday….and, what did I do to them? Upon further contemplation, what did she do to …ME? When was the last time we spoke? for how long? and what did we talk about? on and on the mind went, obsessing, it has got to be something because….they didn’t even speak! And, the fact is they didn’t speak because they were running to the restroom and didn’t even notice. If you recognize this behavior, you just earned a spot on the TV series, Hoarders. Perhaps you have clogged your mind with so much junk, you did not even see the person enter the toilet.
At least one of you was relieved, the other may still be full of “it”…someone needs to flush.
Oprah Winfrey and Iyanla Vanzant did a television show on how their friendship was compromised over unexplored thoughts. The implications were huge! Fortunately they recognized the faults and were able to reconcile in this lifetime. Some lessons are so difficult it may seem easier to walk away. Life is reciprocal and you get what you give. Be gentle.
It is all about being mindful. Sort and organize the thoughts the way laundry is done, discarding the old torn, worn out, ruined pieces with new thoughts of abundance and prosperity, peace and love. Lives will change for the better. The World will change simultaneously.
By continuing to pursue the task of letting go, it will be intriguing with its unique twists and turns. Learn to smile, move or be still.
Seek out tools like denials, that may help quite the incessant monkey chatter in your mind. Learn to release what no longer serves you. Check out my Amazon e-book, What Happens When Affirmations Don’t Work? What they forgot to tell you… This small book is about the process of denials. Denials are a way to consciously clear away negative thoughts held in mind. The brain can be trained like all the other muscles of the body. There is no need to break a physical or mental sweat. It starts with the practice of a little silence, and the recognition and observation of what one is thinking. Take a class or workshop on meditation or visit some of the spiritual places in the community to help slow down to regain and maintain a state of focus and peace.
Then you can begin to truly let go…and let God.
