Generally, calls coming into 911 aren’t the funniest thing in the world: someone’s been mugged, stabbed, beaten, kidnapped, or run over with a bulldozer, and those situations are almost never funny (or, at least, it’s not polite to admit that you find them funny). But what if the call were being made by a frantic Paula Abdul? And what if it was Valentine’s Day, and Abdul was convinced that she was being kidnapped, even if she wasn’t? Well, then you’d get the video we have below, my gentle Examiner readers…
Paul Abdul’s had a tough time since leaving American Idol last season: her new show– so forgettable we can’t even recall the name– fizzled in a matter of weeks, she’s on the verge of being forgotten completely, and now it turns out that she was almost kidnapped by her boyfriend on Valentine’s Day. Actually, Abdul wasn’t being kidnapped on Valentine’s Day, but that didn’t prevent her from calling 911 and telling them she was.
Yes, in the video on the left, you can hear the frantic 911 call that Abdul made last month. Apparently, Abdul and her boyfriend had been having an argument in the car, and when he refused to stop long enough for her to get out, she called 911 and told them she was being “kidnapped”. Leave it to Paula Abdul to have a very loose definition of the word “kidnapped”, but we’re not going to give her a hard time about it. I mean, had she not made the call, we wouldn’t have this ridiculous audio to laugh at.
And, if you’re worried that laughing about this will make you a bad person (“You’re not supposed to laugh about domestic disturbances,” says Cap’n Politically Correct), here’s what happened after the call took place:
Officers got in touch with Paula about an hour later and she said it was just a verbal dispute. We’re told Paula and the guy were driving near Santa Barbara when the epic argument erupted. Cops went to her house that night and found she was fine. Paula did not want to file a police report.
A spokesperson for Abdul tells TMZ, “Arguments with loved ones are often times heated. After the call was made everything was worked out.”
So, guilt-free mockery! Click the box over there on the left to hear the audio of Paula Abdul calling 911 and telling them she’s been kidnapped: if it’s not the most overly-dramatic, useless call to 911 that’s ever been made, I promise that I’ll eat my keyboard. After you’ve heard the audio, feel free to sound off in the comments section, and head on over to TMZ.com if you wanna learn more about Abdul’s wacky kidnapping misadventure.
