Although spring is approaching at an atrociously slow pace, the gradual increments of warm weather bring the desire to travel more frequently. Many will be choosing the busy streets of New York City as their destination but in order to do so, a transformation must be made as NYC and Boston fashion is very different. It is adamant for all to know the differences and just how to make those slight adjustments from Boston style to New York City style.
Pop with color
It is quite obvious that NYC fashion is slightly more exuberant than Boston’s, so now is the time to pull out that overzealous fur jacket that you wouldn’t dare wear down Newbury, but would accentuate the streets of Fifth Ave quite perfectly. However, make sure it is anything but black! Boston loves the color black and New York City is where one wants to be when experimenting with a new color. Although New Yorkers do occasionally sport a black ensemble (a lot of stylists refuse to draw more attention to themselves than their clients), they stray from black Northface jackets and Uggs (both of which are too ordinary and trite) and instead opt for anything chic (lace, silk, draping, etc). Now, especially with spring approaching, is the time to pop with color!
Step it up
New York is the city of fashion, thus it can be assumed that it is also the city of heels. Now is not the time to explore unless you don’t mind doing so in 5-inch heels, with five new blisters and five limps hindering your sexy stroll. Flats are too casual for a city so stimulating, and one doesn’t, of course, want to look like an ignorant tourist! Check out Jeffrey Campbell’s line of fabulous footwear and you’ll be sure to look city-sophisticated!
Always be camera ready! The amount of fashion bloggers, writers and editors that roam the city streets is enormous and there is a very good chance (because you will obviously be looking absolutely stunning) that they’ll ask to feature you. Be ready to pose! Practice your skinny arm weeks before your trip. Study the poses of Kate Moss. Think peace signs, a glance over the shoulder or Mary-Kate’s sultry pout. Work it!
New York City is the place for color, for experimentation, for wild highlights, for pink fur coats, for puppies in your Louis, for 5 am curfews and the place to flaunt those tattoos you wouldn’t dare show a stingy co-worker. One is to hide the Uggs and thick wool socks and not forget the Advil and bandages. Traveling from Boston to New York City is like coming off from the Ferris wheel and getting in line for the Expedition Everest roller coaster at Disney. Enjoy the ride!
