Many people want to know how to find their purpose. It is a highly personal journey and one that every person needs to pursue (whether or not it is acknowledged as such). However, some people have become so good at failing in this quest, that they are actually afraid of succeeding. Think about it. Do you really want to know why you are here? Can you believe that some people would honestly say, “No.” Would you?
The thought of truly discovering something about ourselves is sometimes scary because then we have to make a choice. There could be a fear of knowing, because then would come the responsibility of doing what we are supposed to do. Maybe the reason some people have not found their calling is because they do not want to change the person they already are.
If you have thought about it, but never really searched for the answer, knowing your purpose may remain a question for you not because God has no answer to give, but because you have not yet prepared yourself for the response. You can not hunger for God and not be filled. If you truly hunger, He will reveal Himself. It’s a basic principle of the true and living God.
Do What It takes
God gives us power through His Holy Spirit to be effective in ministry because He wants us to succeed in His mission. While Christ was born about 4 B.C., this does not mean we have to use only ancient methods to effect His will. Making some changes to accomplish positive results is good for the mission so long as these changes do not compromise the truth and they are effective for the right purpose.
If you want to find God’s will, get ready to do some research. Don’t just sit and wait for a news flash. How do you expect to know God’s will for your life if you are not willing to spend any time finding out who you are? Some people begin searching for God’s will for their own life by researching the lives of others. Here’s a tip: Start with God and your own life. Learn who you are as you ask God to show you who He is. If you are truly searching for your link to God, He has been weaving His presence into your entire life. That’s the reason you are looking for Him now. Maybe you have not noticed all the ways He has been revealing His will since day one. Start charting your experience and connecting the dots. Then, get ready to live in the light of this revelation.
Don’t be content to be who you were if you find that who He wants you to become is someone greater.
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: John 1:12
