The Eggs Diet
The gift of the egg to mankind is its high protein value which aids in appetite suppression. So, if you’re not hungry then you’re satisfied. Diet’s fail due the stress and dissatisfaction of not being able to control the hunger that comes along with reducing caloric intake to achieve weight loss goals in a timely fashion. While eggs provide necessary protein enrichment to the daily diet, there are some drawbacks concerning its health benefits.
According to the American Heart Association there have been some misconceptions made about cholesterol and the “incredible edible egg”. When linked to a daily diet consisting of meat at every meal, as most American diets include, you may exceed the dietary limit of 300mg of good cholesterol per day to twice as much. For example, if you have bacon and two scrambled eggs on a roll for breakfast, pastrami on rye with mayonnaise for lunch and steak and potatoes for dinner you will triple the amount of cholesterol intake for the day to at least 900mg. But why blame it on the eggs for breakfast? When in actuality it was the poor daily food choices which increased cholesterol levels and not that poor little ol’ egg. “If you’re going to eat an egg every morning, substitute vegetables for some of the meat,” and “remember that many other foods, especially baked goods, are prepared with eggs — and those eggs count toward your daily cholesterol limit” says the American Heart Association. “People with high LDL blood cholesterol levels or who are taking a blood cholesterol-lowering medication should eat less than 200 mg of cholesterol per day,” they further explained. Eggland’s Best, sells eggs that contain only 180mg of cholesterol per egg. You can find them at your local supermarket in the Bronx and throughout the nation. So, eggs can and should be part of a healthy, low-fat diet when eaten with other meats in moderation.
