“Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives.”
“If they act, if they direct and produce, if they write and if they are on television five days a week, they will come.” This is what occurred in Suwanee, Georgia, nearly 20 miles north of Atlanta, Georgia. Several cast members and two authors from NBC’s Day Time Drama, Days of Our Lives arrived at the Suwanee Town Hall for a book signing and Meet and Greet on Monday, March 21, 2011 from 6pm-8pm.
By six o’clock, usually the time of major traffic jams due to rush hour traffic, nearly 550 people were lined up outside the Town Hall ready and most willing to meet their favorite Days of Our Lives dream character. By 8pm, close to 2000 men, women and children were in line having their books signed and pictures taken with their favorite cast member, author and producer.
Why was this particular Meet and Greet so important to both spectator and the Days of our Lives actors/actresses, author and producer? It was for the signing of new books about the 45 Year Anniversary of the start of the Day Time Drama.
Days of our Lives started back in 1965 and has been on the air ever since. It has seen actors and actresses, writers and producers come and go. The Corday family started the show and present Executive Producer Ken Corday is carrying on the family tradition.
The Days of our Lives Meet and Greet was sponsored by the Gwinnett County Public Library. For more information on the GCPL, visit its website at: http://www.gwinnettpl.org.
In order to get into meet the stars, a spectator had to have one of three books, which because of the larger crowds than expected, ran out. However, due to great work of the staff of Days of Our Lives, more books arrived, again, later running out. The event ran past the 8:00 hour and photos/headshots of the cast members present were brought in to be signed as well, so that the people waiting could enter the room. Well beyond 8pm, there were still large lines outside Suwanee Town Hall.
The books that were on sale were:
Days of our Lives: 45 Years, A Celebration in Photos (Greg Meng, Eddie Campbell)
A Secret in Salem (Sheri Anderson)
Days of Our Lives (Ken Corday)

Local man makes good on Days of our Lives
There was another great reason for the large crowds. One of the actors, a young man of 20, from nearby Norcross, Georgia was in attendance. His name is Chandler Massey and he plays Will Horton, the son to Sami Brady and Lucas Roberts. Sami Brady is played by Allison Sweeney who is also a hostess on The Biggest Loser show.
Chandler Massey was born and grew up in the Atlanta, Georgia area. He graduated from Norcross High School in 2009. He has a brother and sister who still reside in the Norcross area. During his time at Norcross High School, Chandler was active in school productions including, “Little Shop of Horrors” and “One Flew Over The Cookoo’s Nest.”
After strengthening his craft of acting by working with local acting coaches, he moved to Los Angeles where he attended the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in September 2009. After one quarter of school, in December of the same year, he was then cast to play the role of Will Horton in Days of our Lives. He has been in this role ever since.
At the same time, Chandler, has been in other television series as well, including, “One Tree Hill,” Army Wives”, “Eastbound and Out” and a film called, “For What I had to Fear.”
Mr. Massey is now staring in a film called, “16 Love,” a movie that is centered around the world of tennis. The movie was originally called, “Smash,” but due to Producer Steven Spielberg, who had a production with the same name, the movie had to change names.
Chandler’s mother and father, grandparents and brother and sister were all in attendance at the Suwanee Meet and Greet. It was overheard that his grandmother, who is from Calhoun, Georgia was once Miss Georgia.

There was no doubt that Chandler’s family and friends were extremely proud of him. What was even as great as Chandler’s success was that it certainly appears that he has not let it get the best of him. He was cool, calm and collective as this definitely comes from his family upbringing. He is as proud of his family, his brother and sister as they are of him.
Other Cast Members and Staff In Attendance
There were, of course, other cast members and staff in attendance at the Meet and Greet. They were: Nadia Bjorlin (Chloe Lane), Galen Gering (Rafe Hernandez), Suzanne Rogers (Maggie Horton), James Reynolds (Abe Carver), Crystal Chappell (Carly Manning), Bill and Susan Hayes (Doug and Julie Williams), real life husband and wife, Greg Meng (author of Days of Our Lives: 45 Years: A Celebration in Photos) and Eddie Campbell (co-author of Days of Our Lives: 45 Years: A Celebration in Photos).
There was no doubt that everyone in attendance were having a great time. There was a moment, when Galen Gering got up from the table and headed out the door. He really riled up the crowd. Women screamed, thinking they were going to get a chance for a hug or even a kiss from the Daytime Drama Soap star. A few minutes later he returned and the women cheered again.
The Days of our Lives begins locally at 1pm on Channel 11, the local NBC affiliate. When it starts, the first scene plays out and then the forty-five year old introduction with the hour glass begins the rest of the hour show. A voice comes on and says the following: “Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives.” An hourglass is seen sitting still on the screen.
Over the life of Days of our Lives, the program, produced by Corday Productions, Inc., has received numerous Emmy Awards and nominations as well as multiple Soap Opera Digest and People’s Choice Awards.
