Entertainment Weekly reported earlier that the powers that be at ‘Days of our Lives’ may be working on the introduction of a gay storyline. EW reported in their exclusive scoop that the show could involve a current character becoming involved with someone new. Many are speculating the same sex relationship might involve Will (Chandler Massey) and Chad (Casey Diedrick) but at this point it’s anyone’s guess because apparently ‘Days’ is attempting to keep this one under raps. The NBC Network has not issued any comments about the gay theme are allegedly working on.
If the show does pair Will with Chad, they could make an interesting twosome, but since sexuality is always such a struggle for teens it might be less awkward to watch if ‘Days” chose a more mature character to ‘come out’. Sara Bibel at Fancast posed some interesting ideas beyond Will and Chad:
“Another far less plausible scenario — though in keeping with the loopy tone of “Days” — could have Rafe (Galen Gering), who has been sent to an undisclosed location after suffering drug induced amnesia embarking on a relationship with a man because his new persona is gay. Crystal Chappell, who plays Carly, was part of a popular lesbian storyline on her prior soap, “Guiding Light,” and currently stars in and produces the lesbian-themed web series “Venice.” Given that Carly is currently single, the show might consider pairing her with a woman.”
The pairing of the amnesia stricken Rafe would introduce a level of maturity to a gay relationship and if NBC could lure Dr. Reid Oliver (Eric Scheffer Stevens-As the World Turns) to find a cure for Rafe’s memory loss, it would be fabulous. I mean that guy restored Noah’s sight when he was in Oakdale. Of course, money seems to be an issue for soap opera producer’s and exec’s these days. Hiring a specialist of Dr. Oliver’s caliber might be a stretch. If that’s the case, ‘Fake Rafe’ could have an affair with ‘Real Rafe’ and although it might be taxing on the actor and fans would never really get to see any plausible love scenes, the show could save a buck or two.
I still say go after Eric Scheffer Stevens.
The other idea Bibel considered would be to pair Dr. Carly Manning (Crystal Chappell) with someone. Vivian of course would be out of the question and since it has to be someone new, I suppose not an option. Bibel is right about Chappel’s experience acting, writing and producing gay story lines so she would definitely work. This of course would leave all those Carbo fans crushed for life.
Personally, I would not know where to begin with this one, but it’s a good move for NBC’s Days of our Lives if they do it right and give fans a slow burning love tale that has a real shot at some passion. Gay representation on the soaps definitely needs to increase and fans have proven to be very receptive to hearing their love stories.
Kudos to Day’s of our Lives if this is truly in the works. One more thing. You could possibly just have EJ and Victor get together. ElVic would be so adorable and I am becoming slightly bored with the Elvis and Taylor. Sorry Maggie–this was simply a joke!
