Community has already proven they can do a bottle episode perfectly, testing the waters by locking their main characters in during a zombie outbreak during the school’s Halloween party and then going all out when someone steals Annie (Alison Brie)’s pen and she freaks out and refuses to let anyone leave the study room until she gets it back. But they have also gone off-campus once in a while to explore their characters in a non-formal setting. First they went to a bar for Troy (Donald Glover)’s twenty-first birthday, and of course we’ve seen little hints at everyone’s home life in the opening to the season premiere, as well. And they have been so well received, as diehard fans want to know more, more, more about their favorite Greendale students that it appears that the latter is becoming the more and more popular story option for the show’s writers, too.
Coming up for the end of the second season, Community will go out on the town to celebrate another birthday. In the episode airing on March 24th, this time around it is Abed (Danny Pudi)’s special day and the gang decides to throw him a Pulp Fiction-inspired soiree, dressing up like some of his favorite characters from the Quentin Tarantino classic.
Then on March 31st, there is a slightly fancier night out in an episode entitled “Competitive Wine Tasting”. From the promotional slideshow to the left, it appears that the event is Pierce (Chevy Chase)’s doing, most probably as a way of wooing yet another too-young-for-him woman, Wu Mei (guest star Michelle Krusiec).
And on April 7th, in “Paradigms of Human Memory”, the gang explores one of those old-timey towns that are usually used to teach children on school field trips about different periods in our country’s history. But this time around, with Jeff (Joel McHale) getting all decked out in costume, it has to be only explained as some kind of dream-like-state or hallucination, perhaps not unlike their little Christmastime adventure, right? After all, they see the old west, a post-disaster world, and perhaps even Victorian Europe!
All of these episodes lead up to the special hour-long season finale airing on May 12th. This episode will be a two-parter follow-up to last season’s epic “Modern Warfare” and co-star none other than LOST‘s own Josh Holloway.
