Munchbar opened in late January in downtown Bellevue to much fanfare, touting its ultra-comfort food menu of indulgent favorites. In contrast to its wildly dynamic and colorful interiors, the food is like a cozy blanket of food-coma calm. It’s the place you want to go after a long, crummy day to just have something as familiar as a cheeseburger and fries (and a beer). But somehow getting a cheap, soggy burger and sad fries from a drive-thru doesn’t cut it, not after the day you’ve had. You want to treat yourself. Comfort food, yes, but settling for something less in terms of taste? No way. Munchbar is your place to make a bad day go away with a full range of favorite flavors, both savory and sweet.
Along with flavorful menu items, Munchbar has just started a new happy hour schedule Mondays through Fridays, 4-7pm, along with a “Reverse” happy hour on Mondays through Wednesdays, 9pm to close. The happy hours offer $4 draft beers and well drinks, along with half off these items on their Munchies menu: popcorn chicken, crispy mac n’ cheese bites, wings, chicken and french toast, sweet potato fries, tipsy mussels, jalapeno poppers and nachos. Items range from $8 to $14 on their normally priced Munchies menu, but now half-off during their happy hours.
Munchbar’s most popular items are their burgers, which offer half a dozen options ranging from their signature Munchburger, to a Thanksgiving-themed Gobbler turkey burger with cranberries, as well as a vegetarian option that has all the rich fillings of their regular burger, just minus the meat. Their burgers are cooked to order, served with a little silver bucket of shoestring fries. They also come with your own individual squeeze bottle of ketchup, which is a keen personal touch.
If you’re not looking for a burger, some of the more interesting items worthy of a comfort craving are the Sloppy Jack Sliders, two mini barbecue pulled pork sandwiches on small brioche buns, packed with cole slaw and crispy fried onions. Smoky, flavorful, and perfect for two, or if you don’t want to share, no one will blame you for keeping them all to yourself. Another popular unique item is The Best Hangover Pizza, which is a breakfast-themed pizza, piled with egg, bacon, onions and topped with a fried egg in the center, all on a flaky puff pastry dough.
Save room for dessert. One of the best interactive desserts to share with a group is their Tabletop S’mores, which offers a bit of campfire memories with the comfort of an indoor setting. Graham crackers and skewered marshmallows come with a scoop of rocky road ice cream on a bed of graham cracker crumbs and a tray of rich chocolate sauce from Theo’s. The most impressive accessory of this dessert is a personal grill, where a live flame is available for you to roast your marshmallow to desired crispness. It’s one of the rare places that encourage you to set your food on fire.
