The Spring Charity Season in San Francisco and surrounding counties is in full swing. This is the time of year to don your finest threads, schedule your time, get your red carpet look right and checkbook ready. But this is Spring 2011, things have changed when it comes to charity and giving.
Perhaps you would enjoy an alternative to another gala, substituting gown, black tie, and free-flowing champagne for jeans, a comfortable Spring outfit and a Coors Light or a fine Sonoma County Wine in a sunny environment. The charity could not be more relevant and create a real impact now. The added entertainment of 120 teams of wacky weekend warriors for charity is a bonus. You can have fun and raisie money for charity, the Speedway Children’s Charities, to date raising $3 million for over 175 Sonoma youth organizations.
Come experience one of the more unique racing series, 24 Hours of LeMons at Infineon Raceway on March 26-27, 2011. All cars must have been purchased and fixed up for $500. It’s certain to be a wacky and wild weekend at Infineon Raceway. The race is officially called LeMons Sears Pointless, with proceeds donated to the Sonoma Chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities, benefiting youth groups in Sonoma County. Spectator tickets are $20 per day or $30 for a weekend pass. All tickets are all-access. Inspection and “BS Qualifying” are on Friday, March 25, and free for spectators.
One of the teams, Bernal Dads Racing will be racing their ’84 Volvo with a ’95 Miata body called a Volviata. In seven attempts to race it everything has gone wrong: the engine has blown, a tire came off, they’ve been sideswiped, and a water pump disintegrated. They are hoping to finish the race this time.
When it comes to making a difference there is no question that there are more traditional deserving causes and wonderful events that deserve your careful consideration. Some that you might consider include San Francisco Ballet’s Spring Gala: Revelry on The Rhine; California Academy of Sciences Big Bang Gala; Symphonix The Masked Ball; Glaad Media Awards; American Red Cross Gala; and Bravo! Gala.
If you have been curious about the world of race-cars this would be an entertaining event to check out…and it’s for a good cause.
