A fast moving low pressure system will accelerate north and east, along the path of the Saint Lawrence River and into the Gulf of Saint Lawrence by later Friday evening. This low pressure will drag a cold front through the region by early afternoon, followed by a reinforcing surface trough later in the day. As the winds shift from a southwesterly to more of a west-northwesterly direction later today after the cold frontal passage, they will likely become strong and quite gusty. Of particular interest appears to be the funneling effect down the Mohawk Valley, which could lead to strong wind gusts across portions of the immediate Capital Region later this morning through early evening.
High pressure reasserts control over the region, from central Canada, later Friday evening and looks to last through the majority of the coming weekend. Although temperatures will not be nearly as mild as they have been the past couple days, they will not be overly chilly either, and appear to be near seasonal levels.
The next chance of precipitation looks to occur as we start the new work week. The high pressure system controlling our weather over the weekend slides east of the region by Sunday night allowing a return flow of milder and more moist air to set up. This will be followed by another fast moving low pressure that passes through the region during the day on Monday bringing the chance for some showers of rain and snow to the region. At this point in time, snow looks to occur during the morning hours, and with warmer air moving in quickly, precipitation should change to liquid rain by late morning and early afternoon.
