The John W. Engeman Theater in Northport had a visit from someone who really knows Cabaret this week: Joe Masteroff, who wrote the book for the classic musical. Masteroff attended the Saturday evening performance of Cabaret and gave the production his stamp of approval.
“The entire evening was pretty wonderful,” Masteroff said, describing the Engeman Theater as “a perfect theater for Cabaret.”

The theater’s hot-selling production of Cabaret is riding on a wave of fantastic reviews, with the New York Times calling it “as raw, raunchy and unsanitized as the dark-hued musical demands… a polished black diamond of a show.”

The show’s director, BT McNicholl, arranged for the visit from Masteroff. McNicholl introduced Masteroff at the end of Saturday night’s performance and the audience gave the second standing ovation of the evening. The talented cast met with the legendary playwright after the show.
“It was an amazing evening for the audience, cast and crew,” said Producing Artistic Director Richard T. Dolce. “We are truly honored that Mr. Masteroff attended our production.”
