On both Syfy’s and BBC America’s Being Human Josh (Sam Huntington) and George (Russell Tovey) are both similar, yet different in many ways. Both Josh and George have many funny lines, though Josh humor is a dry sort. (This profile is based off of season 1 of both shows)
Both Josh and George are werewolves. Both hate that their humanity was taken from them. Both are funny, and while George tends to be a bit girlie when he gets upset, both can be angsty. They both live with a ghost and a vampire as room mates. Both work in a hospital. And both have shunned their families to keep their secret safe.
George, in his human form tends to be more of a beta wolf than alpha. He cries very easily, (you could say he is very emotional), his reactions are almost always over the top, especially when it appears people are coming close to finding out his secret. He just doesn’t yell his voice goes into a high-pitched screech when things get out of hand. He has this screech when he is going through the transformation as well, giving the audience a glimpse into his pain.
Josh, in his human form tends to go back and forth between the alpha wolf and the beta. He is a bit tougher than George, though he tends to react similar, he does not get the high-pitched screech, nor does he tend to cry at the drop of a dime. He is more of a bumbler, who trips over his words, and yet he can’t stop talking. It is amusing to see his reaction when he feels people are getting close to finding out his secret.
Both Josh and George try having a relationship, but they also try to hide what they are, which makes a strange start and stop type relationship.
Being Human is a television show that is showcasing what it means to be human while living a monsters’ existence. Both Josh and George cope in the best they know how, but it does make for a strange existence with their room mates who are not quite human themselves.
