David: “How long have you been playing Magic and how did you learn how to play?”
Paul: “I began playing in 1994 around my friend’s kitchen table, however I stopped playing for well over a decade. I recently got back into it with the release of Duels of the Planeswalkers on the PlayStation 3. It sort of rekindled my love for customizable card games and now I can’t stop buying cards.”
David: “How has playing Magic made an impact on your life?”
Paul: “It definitely helps the day go by better since my coworkers and I started playing on our lunch break.”
David: “What is your favorite format? Favorite card?”
Paul: “I guess that my favorite format is anything casual, but I’m not against any of the more restrictive types. I just like having the ability to use practically any card in my deck and build some fun or amusing strategies.
As for my favorite card, I think that may go to the foil reprint of Tinker (From the Vault: Exiled). I enjoy the artwork, the ridiculousness of how powerful it is, and the flavor text. “What separates us from mere beasts is the capacity for self-improvement.”
David: “What kind deck are you currently tinkering with?”
Paul: “Since I play the game on a near daily basis, it’s not uncommon for me to use several different decks within the week. Currently I am having fun with an 85 card count RELICS OF DOOM deck, with four added Venser’s Journal cards and a couple copies of Tinker. However I am always working on building a new deck.”
David: “Is there anything else you’d like to add?”
Paul: “Thank you for this contest and for keeping such an informative Magic column.”
