Stellar Award winner and Dove nominee William Becton, a gospel music singer and producer who is a native of Washington, D.C. will perform in the area this weekend. Becton will appear as part of an Evening of Worship and Laughter at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Saturday, April 30th at 5:30 p.m. The show also features praise dancer Dominique Parker and comedian E-Boogie. Stellar award winning radio personality Tracy Morgan will serve as Mistress of Ceremonies.
The event is presented by Stoney Rhodes of Jehovah Jireh Productions who hosts a gospel music event twice a year. “I’ve been doing this for 12 years. It’s about giving back and I always give to different ministries. I’ve done things such as a fundraiser with Maliek Blade at National Christian School”, he says. Blade, a mime, will also perform at Saturday’s event.
When asked about the event’s purpose, Rhodes says, “It is a ministry that God has blessed me with. There is a powerful testimony behind it. Before I was saved I used to do cabarets and discos”. Rhodes musical direction has now changed, “After salvation, God dropped this in my spirit. He said I was sending people to hell before, now I can bring them to Him”.
Rhodes goes on to say, “We are bringing in a national recording artist, William Becton. This will be a different concert because I usually do quartets. There will be a move of God, a time to be more intimate with God.” He feels the gospel event will allow attendees to express themselves, “When we come into church we can clap our hands, but can we really worship when you’re going through something? They can come and forget what they’re going through and worship”.
William Becton & Friends released their debut album “Broken” in 1995. That album debuted on Billboard’s Gospel chart at number three, quickly jumping to number one and remained there for more than eleven weeks. Becton & Friends has received two Stellar Awards and six Stellar nominations, two Gospel Music Workshop of America Excellence Awards, three Washington Area Music Awards, Dove Award nominations and the WOW Gospel Sales Award.
Other performers include Robin Sugar Williams, Sherrie Bobby and mime group, Selah which consists of two brothers and their sister. The church is located at 4015 St. Barnabas Road, Temple Hills, MD. The donation is $15.00. For further information contact Stoney Rhodes at 240-304-1418.
