Flint area fans are buzzing about last night’s ‘American Idol’s’ dramatic Top 13 reveal. Some standouts didn’t make it through, like Brett Lowenstern and Robbie Rosen. But, overall, Flint area viewers think America got it right and the judges made the right wild card calls. One local viewer said, ‘There was a ton of great talent this year. But, in my opinion, everyone that made it, deserves to be there.’ Someone else said, ‘I think this might be the best season the show has ever had. I love the chemistry between Randy (Jackson), Steven and Jennifer. Randy was swallowed up before. Jennifer is a true diva. Steven is a legend and truly makes the whole show.’ Another person said, ‘Steven Tyler called it early on with Lauren Alaina and then with Thia Megia and Jacob Lusk. People are making all these comments about his funky pirate shirt last night. I loved it. It’s who he is. I also love what he said to Stefano about gilding the lily. He may be a rocker, but he’s poetic and kind and passionate in his own beautiful way.’
It is understandable how 24 hopefuls leading ordinary lives can get caught up in a show like ‘American Idol’ that delivers a chance to make a dream come true. To make it through literally hundreds of thousands of people to the top 24 is indeed an accomplishment in and of itself. Which is why it was a bittersweet night watching the most drastic number of cuts in one night since the show began.
Jennifer Lopez immediately said it was going to be a very tough night, because everyone is so talented and some people would be leaving. The top 24 were interviewed about what their most memorable moments were on the show, and most of them centered around compliments from the judges. Like, Lauren Alaina, who said she loved when Steven Tyler said we found her, I think we found the one.
Host Ryan Seacrest happily reported that over 40 million votes were cast over the 2 night voting period. America, he said, was happy with the show, and happy with the current group. And, it turned out America agreed with most of Tyler’s and his judging colleagues’ praises, as Pia Toscano, Lauren Alaina, Thia Megia, Karen Rodriguez and Haley Reinhart grabbed the top 5 spots for the girls. Scotty McCreery, Jacob Lusk, Paul McDonald, Casey Abrams and James Durban took the guys’ spots.
That left some early favorites like Robbie Rosen, Naima Adedapo and Stefano Langone fearing for exile. The judges decided to allow 6 people, 3 guys and 3 girls to sing for their lives for a wild card spot.
Ashton Jones, Naima Adedapo, Kendra Chantelle, Stefano Langone, Robbie Rosen and Jovany Barreto were picked to sing again in hopes of staying in the competition.
When Langone finished singing Tyler said, ‘you gilded the lily of your own passion. From what I heard you do 20 weeks ago to now, you did it. You brought it right now. And you did it in such a way where you brought all that stuff I heard in the beginning that made me fall in love with your voice to that song just now. Right there.’
The deliberations were tough and continued while Lopez’ music video ‘On the Floor’ premiered. Finally, they revealed they were giving 3 wild card spots to Ashton Jones, Naima Adedapo and Stefano Langone.
The fate of the season 10 ‘American Idol’ lucky 13 contestants will now rest in America’s hands. To quote host Ryan Seacrest who likes to remind viewers, you have to vote to keep your favorites in.
‘American Idol’ airs in Flint on WSMH FOX66 Wednesdays and Thursdays at 8 PM EST.
