The Arizona Historical Society—Southern Arizona Division/Docent Councilare organizing a trip to Silver City, New Mexico on May 5 through 8, 2011. The tour includes transportation and all meals included. Tours of Silver City, Western New Mexico University, Gila Cliff Dwellings, Fort Bayard and Mesilla. Many of these stops are known to be haunted or have experience paranormal activity.
Day 1Guests will be departing Tucson at 9am. You will tour the Amerind Foundation and enjoy a picnic lunch. Next stop is the Steins ghost town known to be haunted by the old railroad community. After a brief tour, you will continue to Silver City and check into the Holiday Inn Express—the hotel for the duration of the tour. There will be dinner and orientation that night at the hotel.
Day 2This morning your will take a scenic drive through the Gila Wilderness and tour the Gila Cliff Dwellings. You will be led by a docent through a portion of the dwellings—a series of 46 rooms in a series of five caves. You can just imagine all the spirit energy left behind by the ancestors. Enjoy a picnic lunch at the visitor’s center. On the way back to Silver City, you will tour historic Fort Bayard which played a big role in protecting the Silver City Mining districts from Apache raiders. A dinner in downtown Silver City is planned.
Day 3This day you will visit Western New Mexico University and the museum located in Fleming Hall. You will learn the significance of the Mogollon Culture that lived in the Gila Wilderness. They have a large collection of Mogollon artifacts and you will have an opportunity to handle ancient Mimbres pottery. That evening the group will visit Pinos Altos for a short tour and dinner at a local restaurant.
Day 4On the last day the tour leaves Silver City and travels to Las Cruces for a visit to Historical Mesilla where Billy the Kid’s ghost still roams. Enjoy lunch at the famous haunted La Posta restaurant and spend some time in the Plaza before returning to Tucson around 5pm.

Although this tour is not promoted as a “ghost tour”, paranormal investigators in Arizona can hop aboard the bus and be off on quite an adventure to several historical/haunted locations! Silver City is a must see for the lovers of the paranormal!
